Cashew nuts in the Philippines

With CarbonCycle in the Philippines in 2019

CarbonCycle is a Filipino recycling company and a renewable energy startup. They decided to tackle climate change and poverty issues by introducing the Lytefire5 to three communities from which they are buying bio-waste to make fertilizer.

CarbonCycle is focused on the sustainable processing of the five F’s: food, feed, fuel, fiber and fertilizer from the agrifood industry’s main stream and waste stream, with renewable energy as input and output.

With Lytefire tech, Mr Dale Franco Llentic, CEO and founder of Carbon Cycle Processing Inc., is planning to aplly Solar Thermal Technologies to agrifood processing for a better quality of life of the farming communities in the Philippines. In September 2018, Carbon Cycle won a Bank of the Philippines Islands SINAG award for their social work and their project with solar thermal and we started in 2019.

This project will demonstrate the techno-economic feasibility of solar thermal technologies for processing agricultural products in agricultural communities in the Philippines.

University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines is supporting CarbonCycle actions and is a partner in this project for collection of social and technical data.

The three following communities are part of this first step of the project.

The Malanang Farmers Cooperative (in Opol, Misamis Oriental) consists of mostly coconut farmers producing copra, charcoal and other products. Copra is dehydrated coconut flesh, and to make it they use a combination of open sun drying, kiln drying using firewood, and kiln drying using coir (coconut shells).

The Mindagat Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (in Malitbog, Bukidnon province) is roasting soy and produces soy powder for the local market.

The Lumbia Cooperative was formerly a women’s cooperative. They process cashew nuts and dried banana chips.

More can be read about Carbon Cycle journey here.

In this project, our team is providing Lytefire5 units with Ovens, Roasters and Dryers, alongside our user training.
