Impact
One Lytefire used 210 days per year in Kenya is preventing the emission of 5 tons of CO². Since 2012, our mission is to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all everywhere the sun shines (SDG7) and to participate to the creation of truly sustainable jobs. Lytefire is tackling 11 SDG’s.
Find out here how our work is aligned with the following Sustainable Developments Goals.
And for each SDG, the relevant sub-targets are identified.
SDG
Target of SDG that Lytefire impacts
1.5: BUILD RESILIENCE TO ENVIRONMENTAL, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DISASTERS
“By 2030, build the resilience of the poor and those in vulnerable situations and reduce their exposure and vulnerability to climate-related extreme events and other economic, social and environmental shocks and disasters”.
By installing Lytefire, we break the poverty circle because low-income people can start running their own income generating activities.
3.9: REDUCE ILLNESSES AND DEATH FROM HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS AND POLLUTION
“By 2030, substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination”.
Lytefire doesn’t burn anything therefore no smoke nor black particles are inhaled by the users.
4.7: EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP
“By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development”.
The trainings we have created around Lytefire are teaching more awareness about sustainability, equality and tolerance.
5.5: ENSURE FULL PARTICIPATION IN LEADERSHIP AND DECISION-MAKING
“Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life.”
Being easy to install, operate and maintain, Lytefire can be easily operated by women, contributing greatly to their leadership in the local economy.
All Targets: please check them all here
“Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”.
By bringing clean heat through direct solar concentration (CSP - Concentrated Solar Power) with a device that is not relying on imported material, this SDG is the main one we address.
8.6: PROMOTE YOUTH EMPLOYMENT, EDUCATION AND TRAINING
“By 2020, substantially reduce the proportion of youth not in employment, education or training”.
Lytefire is not only an energy device. It also has the social impact to create lots of sustainable jobs. The more youth is trained to solar baking and roasting, the more useful jobs can be create to reinforce the local stability where they live.
9.1: DEVELOP SUSTAINABLE, RESILIENT AND INCLUSIVE INFRASTRUCTURES
“Develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, including regional and transborder infrastructure, to support economic development and human well-being, with a focus on affordable and equitable access for all”.
By working with licensees, we aim to reinforce and develop good regional infrastructures that can make local fabrication of Lytefire more and more affordable.
10.1: “By 2030, progressively achieve and sustain income growth of the bottom 40 per cent of the population at a rate higher than the national average”.
Empowering the low-income population is the core of our motivation. Because Lytefire is very simple to use and maintain, and it is very powerful to run a local food transformation micro-business, more and more will be installed. This will heavily support income growth for the most vulnerables.
11.6: REDUCE THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF CITIES
“By 2030, reduce the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities, including by paying special attention to air quality and municipal and other waste management.”.
Logically, when more cities stop to rely exclusively on fossil fuels to use more clean energy, less CO² is emitted. And when they chose clean energy systems that are built locally, it’s even less.
12.6: ENCOURAGE COMPANIES TO ADOPT SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES AND SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING
“Encourage companies, especially large and transnational companies, to adopt sustainable practices and to integrate sustainability information into their reporting cycle.”
By working with licensees in different countries, we aim to reinforce and develop sustainable regional infrastructures that can make local fabrication more and more aligned with local and international regulation.
13.1: STRENGTHEN RESILIENCE AND ADAPTIVE CAPACITY TO CLIMATE RELATED DISASTERS. And 13.3: BUILD KNOWLEDGE AND CAPACITY TO MEET CLIMATE CHANGE.
“Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries.” And: "Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning."
The Lytefire Oven, Stove, Roaster, have been designed to increase resilience among vulnerable populations. We stand for more visibility of solar thermal energy (CSP). All the training we offer do spread awareness about climate change among the beneficiaries.
