Skills & Training

Lytefire is usually easy to install and sometimes a training is needed to facilitate the appropriation or to support the creation of a profitable activity. We can also offer TVET and Tech ToT.

Lytefire for Education, Income Generation and Productive Use

First of all, being an entrepreneur is a mindset and many people have it but they blocked with the lack of abundant free and clean energy. With Lytefire’s simplicity and power, they can create their own, successful and sustainable job. Each Solar Bakery Training is about 3 weeks and goes through all the aspects of launching a small activity. We train groups of beneficiaries, for example youths or women’s groups, in the skills of running their solar bakery.

Alternatively Lytefire can also be used to roast nuts and seeds for snacks and the training can be more focused on this activity.

"Earning money from bakery sales is an integral part of the training. Participants learn the technical, baking and entrepreneurship skills to run the Solar Bakery we start with them. The results are real. "
— Joan Arwa, Trainer

Each participant learns the hands-on skills of baking delicious breads, cakes, cookies and local specialties. On top of this, each participant will learn how to manage the new energy resource, how to plan the production according to the weather. Hygiene, accountability, team management, we make sure the participants can become a successful and independant when it comes to maintain their Lytefire.

Explainer: Why we care so much about maintainability?

Every technology breaks at some point. And if we can’t fix it, well — it remains broken.

We have seen this happen in the field with so many solar lights, water pumps, tractors... that once were shiny but now are just standing around, useless, polluting, a waste of money and hope.

So we designed Lytefire for maintainability. It means that we only use simple materials, and glass mirrors, that are available in any larger town for replacement. This way, users can maintain Lytefire themselves.

Questions? Let’s talk.

Lytefire for Trainers, Vocational Schools and Technical Schools

We offer on-site Training of Trainers (ToT) for vocational schools and TVET programs to integrate our technical know-how into their curriculum.

Post-training, institutions can integrate our methodology, build Lytefire Solar Ovens for internal use, and access ongoing support via the Lytefire Hub.

The Training of Trainer (TOT) is for you if you are interested in:
– Enabling your students to learn and build innovative solar tech
– Using Lytefire in your institution, e.g. to save money on energy
– Offer skills that benefit students now and in the future

The Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) is for you if you want to integrate Lytefire’s know-how in your technical school’s curriculum.

Our training are the result of our 15 years building Lytefire in different settings with artisan methods developed with many builders all around the world in challenging contexts. So we know from experience that we can adapt to your unique setup to make the Lytefire ToT a success.

What They Say

Benedict Bithola
Benedict Bithola, Uganda
Manager of Nebbi Smart Up Solar Bakery
Started in 2022 with one Lytefire oven after a training

"Joining the Lytefire project was a special moment and the best decision we have ever made because in most countries in Africa, especially in Uganda, we are educated to look for jobs as job seekers not as job creators but this bakery group with the Lytefire solar oven and training has given us an opportunity to create jobs."

Robert Freling
Robert Freling, USA
Executive Director at SELF - Solar Electric Light Fund
Initiated and oversaw our women's empowerment project with SELF in Uganda

"Throughout the process, Lytefire proved itself as an innovative, resourceful, and thoughtful partner in Uganda. They offer an impressive product, and back it with in-depth knowledge and supportive staff. The Lytefire units have a triple impact of fighting climate change, enhancing food security, and supporting rural entrepreneurship. This technology has great potential to help the world. I am pleased to recommend Lytefire."

Impact

We have created this calculator to help you visualize the reality of the impact created by Lytefire.

1 Lytefire have the following impact each year:

kpi_1 tons CO₂
not emitted (CO₂eq)

kpi_2 baguettes baked *

African baguettes are about 40cm in length and 150g.

or kpi_4 meals cooked **

650g of cooked rice and beans
800 calories per meal

kpi_3 trees
or kpi_5 m² of forest preserved

Your 0 Lytefire are preserving each year kpi_3 trees

This impact comes when replacing firewood as a fuel

Advanced ⚙
How this impact is calculated →

Choose the energy that Lytefire is replacing:

kilograms
30-40kg of breads baked per day is a value from real solar bakers in Kisumu, Kenya, although higher amounts are technically possible, this depends on the day-to-day activities of the bakery.
workdays
The average number of solar days depepnds on the local climate. Estimate providede for Kisumu, Kenya.
kWh / kg bread
kg firewood / kg bread
This depends on the efficiency of the ovens used before Lytefire and the energy density of the wood. A 2014 study in Mozambique found 0.9kgs of firewood used per 1kg of baked bread in pre-heated wood-ovens (source).
kg charcoal / kg bread
kg CO₂eq
kg CO₂eq
kg CO₂eq
kg / tree
Varies greatly depending on forest. 127kg is based on Grevillea robusta harvests in Embu, Kenya (source).
m² / tree
Varies greatly depending on forest. The higher the number, the less dense the forest. A 3 by 3 meter spacing per tree results in 9m² per tree.
Solar Bakery

Simple and local, with zero CO2 Emissions

when using any version of Lytefire. Because the best CO² is the one not emitted. More about Lytefire

CO2 reduction

Protect the air and the forests

5 tons of CO² are not emitted each year for each Lytefire used 210 days p.a. to replace wood and charcoal in Kenya.
