What They Say

Joan Arwa Ogwang, Kenya
Solar Fire Bakery Founder
Entrepreneur

"When the sun rises and the sky is blue, I am sure it’s a good baking day. Our demand rose to 40kg a day and it’s impressive to see how well the Lytefire can handle this. It’s a joy for me and my bakers to bake tray after tray with solar."

Prudence Vasta, Uganda
Chief Baker at BPJ Nebbi Smart Up Solar Bakery and Farmer
Started in 2022 with one Lytefire oven after a training

"Receiving the Lytefire Solar oven has improved our lives. We are glad to testify the beauty in using solar energy because it’s cheap, user friendly and we no longer spend money on electricity or charcoal."

Richard Loyen, France
Executive Director of ENERPLAN
Solar energy expert

"The global energy crisis caused by the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz is disrupting the International Energy Agency (IEA )’s plan to promote LPG for ‘clean’ cooking in Africa. This fossil gas has become too expensive for many people. There isn’t enough electricity on the continent to use electric ovens for professional cooking. So the Lytefire is now more relevant than ever as a solution to a major problem: cooking every day without burning fuel, at an affordable cost."

Christina Nyback, Finland
International Programme Director at World Vision Finland
Oversees our projects with World Vision in East Africa

"Such a great example of sustainable innovation supporting local entrepreneurship, livelihoods, and school meals. Thank you for the inspiring initiative and for the important collaboration, Lytefire!"

Delicious food!

Baking and cooking with direct solar energy doesn’t change the taste of food. Same quality, but with solar energy. It is also possibe to do food canning, baking, roasting, and cooking.

Can you see how simple and powerful this is? About the tech →

Human scale

“ With this solar fire, no need for electricity and no need to burn anything anymore. The mirrors concentrate the sunlight directly. Oh and if you are wondering why there are no PV, no batteries, no rare earth metals, it is because in many places simplicity is the best approach to support people locally.” — Eva and Urs, co-founders Lytefire

POST  ·  yesterday

What’s the point of changing the energy system when we end up with the same dependencies as before? Renewable energy has the potential to free people, make them energy independent and reduce the global tensions around energy. But who is advocating for buildable, DIY, decentralized, maintainable solar?
We’re at 58% on our crowdfunding campaign to give Lytefire a big push. To increase access. To spread the knowledge. Build a pragmatic solar thermal energy solution. More info: https://lnkd.in/e8YY-46z

Almost every day, the Arise & Shine solar bakery is sharing their baking activity with us by sending a few pictures like that. This group is so impressive.
For this project with Jansen PrimeSteps Foundation, we had to chose good candidates to be trained to start a solar baking activity. Thanks to World Vision Kenya we were able to meet this group.
They’ve worked hard to create their kitchen and prepare the ground. Since they have welcome Joan Arwa and their beautiful Lytefire, their baking activity has been on the rise.
Discover their energy and their story. The link to their interview is in comment.

The sun shines everywhere, yes, but why hasn’t this led to a local, sovereign, ecologic and sustainable energy situation?

Or more importantly, what’s keeping us from achieving this, now? At Lytefire we believed it was a combination of politics and people who will get the job done. While we lose faith in politics on a regular basis, we have never lost faith in people. And that is what we have been supporting DIY solar approaches. It gives people an opportunity to make a meaningful change.

Demonstrate what’s possible, Inspire others. Show that by using solar without electricity, or by starting a bakery, one can live well, without fossils. We think that more and more of these pioneers are needed, to show the rest of the world how it’s done. And then change can come.

Support our ongoing campaign on Ulule. 23 days left to spread diy methods and solar artisans experiences widely.
